Pumpkin coffee and small talk

Hello, and welcome to the Cambridge Connection, your roadmap to debt solutions and renewed financial wellness with your host, Gordon Oliver. The Cambridge Connection is brought to you in partnership with Cambridge Credit Counseling, offering you simple, safe financial solutions since 1996. 5 FM, 1400 AM. I’m your host, Gordon Oliver, here with my co-pilot, Tina Marie. What’s up, Tina?

Good morning, Gordon. I brought you a pumpkin coffee. I hope you don’t mind. You want to start with that right away, don’t you? Pumpkin this, pumpkin that, pumpkin diapers, pumpkin toilet paper.

What are we doing? It’s tis the season. Tis the season. I do like pumpkin coffee. However, I can definitely do without pumpkin donuts, but give me a cider donut in a minute.

I feel like the fall is like the only time where there’s something so significant. Pumpkin is it. Yeah. Everything. Well, and apples.

So cider. I think apples get the backseat to pumpkin, for sure. Not in my book. All right. Actually, that’s a good debate.

Apples or pumpkin? Yeah. Put pumpkin with tuna fish, do you? No, and I don’t put apples with tuna fish either. All right.

Giants and Patriots football talk

Good. All right. So let’s get over with it. All right. Giants, you were at the games last week.

I went last week. Yes. Monday Night Football. Jeez. We knew the 2-0 was- Too good to be true.

We probably thought it should have been 0-2. When it hit 13-13, I lost my mind. I said, you know what? I’m done. I had no faith in my team.

I have to say, though, I’m proud to be a fan with you. Yes, it is. It’s fun. We’re not quitters. We’re not giving up.

No, we’re not. We’re troubled, but we’re not giving up. Very troubled. But we got the Bears tomorrow, so we’ll see how that works out. Yep.

Introducing today’s abundance guest

And stationed in here in New England, the dream team that forever gave is looking like it’s not going to be giving much for a while, that New England Patriot team. Well, that’s neither here nor there. All right. So listen, we do everything we can on this show to not be doom and gloom. So today’s a very special day.

Read the rest of the transcript, about 4,700 more words

Yes. It is October 1st. Yes. And our special guest is going to share with us how to live in abundance. That’s perfect.

And I think something, I want to have this conversation too, because again, every headline is the economy’s bad. Household debt’s increasing and increasing and increasing. Not for the wealthy, but for the regular everyday people. Right. Right?

And we’re going to learn today from our guests how to change the way you think through some very unique practices. And I think the part of the start is you have to start believing that you can change the way you think. Yes. And if we’re constantly given information that can make us negative, you’ve got to do some work. Right.

To get out of that. You’ve got to work on yourself. Yeah. And I’m excited to talk with her today. We’ve talked about finances and how they attach to mental health, and then we have mental health guests that have been on to talk about it as well.

So I think this is really going to be a great discussion at a perfect time where people can have a way to think about things differently and go into changing some routines. Change your thoughts. Change your thoughts. Change your life. All right.

We’re going to take a quick break. This is Gordon Oliver with The Cambridge Connection. We’ll be right back. Are the rise in prices for gas and other expenses crushing your budget? Cambridge’s typical clients save $140 per month while paying down their credit card debt at much lower interest rates.

Judy Bailoff shares her health journey

Call 1-800-CAMBRIDGE. Welcome back, everyone, to The Cambridge Connection. I’m your host, Gordon Oliver, here with my co-pilot, Tina Marie, and it is a privilege to introduce our guests. Judy Bailoff is with us from 365 Days of Abundance. Judy, welcome to The Cambridge Connection.

Thank you for the welcome. I am thrilled to be here. And we are thrilled to have you. One of the things we focus on, this is a show about financial wisdom, financial empowerment, financial wellness, and we really do our best to stay away from doom and gloom. And obviously, we know we’re in a rough economy right now and household debt is skyrocketing and there’s many reasons for people to be negative.

So we’re going to get into the book that you have produced to help people. But before we do that, can you tell our audience a little bit about your story? Okay. This journey began. I’m not a young chick.

A chick I just found, like a young chick, my 70th birthday is next month. And what a great decade the 60s were. My 60s, not everybody else’s 60s. I can tell you that seven years ago, my physician at my annual physical said, Judy, I’m concerned about what your echocardiogram looks like. I want you to go see a cardiologist.

Well, that started a lot of tests. I ended up having open heart surgery, which is a big seven-hour surgery with a giant scar down the middle of your chest. And when I woke up, they told me that unfortunately, some of the calcification around the heart valve had broken loose during the surgery and floated up to my cerebellum and caused five strokes. Wow. Good Lord.

And so those strokes robbed me of my ability to read, to write, to use my right hand, to use my complex thinking. I guess they thought I had it at one point, or so they said I lost it. And my thoughts of balance was pretty troublesome because I kept falling all the time, even though there was nothing to trip over. And then I lost my job. I went back, after 10 weeks, I worked really hard.

I used auto-suggestion, which we were talking about a few minutes ago, offline, and in gratitude and prayer. And I made nearly a full recovery, and I got to go back to work. I got back to work, and they got rid of me, so I lost my job, too. And I ended up having to use all the tools in my tool bag to figure out how to go forward. I was 64, and I just lost a 27-year career in the financial services industry.

And I was like, anyway, I took a job with a huge, one of the top insurance companies in the country, and in the last five years, I killed it. I have been agent of the year, top six in the company, made over half a million dollars, totally came back from- Good for you. And that is what happened. The bad thing is what caused the good thing, which is what we need to remember. Because I got introduced to Bob Proctor through the company I was with, I took a class with him, I ended up being mentored by him, he wrote the forward for my book, and I got up one morning in January of 2021, and I said to my husband, David, somebody should write a book that would help people live these principles every day, because they’re all connected.

The Bible, Think and Grow Rich, Bob Proctor stuff, the 12 Universal Laws. And so then God tapped me on the shoulder and said, why don’t you write it, Judy? So I did. 30 every morning and wrote for two hours, and got the book published November 1st of that year, so it was out for Christmas. I mean, to write 365 days worth of practice, I mean, that must have taken quite some time.

It was. It was literally two, two and a half hours. 30 every day, even on vacation. I’d get up before David was ready to go play tennis, and I’d sit out on the porch of the hotel and write. And it was such an exciting time, because every day I would say, what is God going to give me today to put in this book?

And that’s amazing. It just came to you every day. Every day. I read 70 books. I mean, I was not getting stuck in my brain.

Right, right. All right. So for our listeners, again, this is The Cambridge Connection. We’re here with Judy. And the name of the book is 365 Days of Abundance, Principle of Success and Wealth.

And you kind of, you nailed something on the head, I mean, telling your story, you could have just packed it in, really, I mean, you could have just gave up and said, there’s no hope. I mean, when they give you news, like, we’re sorry to tell you that this is what happened during your surgery, and you could have really just given up at that point. And I think this is a great message for our listeners, that it is all about taking charge and changing the way you think. Absolutely. I mean, you actually just described my keynote address.

Explaining the twelve universal laws

Good job, Gordon. I’m connected, Judy, I’m connected. Yes, absolutely. So 365 Days of Abundance is an inspirational daily devotional that helps people create abundance in every aspect of their life. So let’s talk about how you break it down.

When I discovered the 12 universal laws, I don’t know, do you guys know the 12 universal laws? Does anybody? Maybe we could share them for our audience. I don’t know them. Yeah, I didn’t either.

And we all live within the universal laws, even though we don’t know we do. So learning what they are, and how they work, helps us live an abundant life. It’s actually the keys to the kingdom, both on the side of business and personal. I use them every day. The 12 of them is Universal Law of Divine Oneness, Universal Law of Vibration, Universal Law of Correspondence, that’s auto-suggestion, talking to your subconscious.

Universal Law of Attraction, we’ve all heard of that one. This is a mouthful. Universal Law of Perpetual Transmutation of Energy, it’s a very important law, it works every day, all the time. Number six is Perpetual Motion. Number seven is Universal Law of Polarity.

Number eight is Universal Law of Relativity, I call that one my everyday law. Number nine is Inspired Action, that one always makes me think of Flight 93. Number 10, Universal Law of Compensation, 11, Cause and Effect, and 12, Giving and Receiving. It literally covers every base of life. So these are the principles that you are using.

Are you using scripture? I saw in just looking at one of them that you’re using actual verses from the Bible to kind of connect the affirmation. Is that right? Yes. So each day, on every single page of the book, for 365 days, it starts with a date, and then it tells you the principles of success and wealth from Napoleon Hill’s book, Think and Grow Rich, or it tells you which universal law you’re going to read about, and it has the Bible verse that’s directly related, supporting that principle or law.

Then many times there’s a quote, if I found an appropriate one that worked in that situation, sometimes there’s not. Then there’s a reflection that I wrote, and then there’s an affirmation that I wrote on the bottom. So every day, you’ve got some of the Bible, some wise words from somebody, some wise words from Judy, and an affirmation to start the day. We know that affirmations are how you control your thoughts, because otherwise your subconscious mind runs on autopilot. Look, this show is about financial wellness and wisdom, and you came to us through Lisa, our producer, and obviously this information is going to be tremendous, because it becomes a podcast and people can listen to it whenever they want to.

Before we take a break, I do want to ask a question that’s important. There are some people out there that simply are atheists, they don’t believe in God. Would this turn them off because it’s biblical in nature, or is it something that will work for anyone anyway? It works for anyone anyway. My mom said, Judy, you’re a Christian, this isn’t a Christian book.

I said, it’s not supposed to be a Christian book, Mom. My prayer is that this book helps move the universe one millimeter closer to God. I always say, Judy, to my atheist friends, what’s the worst case scenario when you go to church on Sunday? You go into a place where people are being neighbors, shaking hands, hugging, singing some songs, being happy in a crazy world like this. What’s the harm in that, right?

What is the harm of taking a book that’s over 2,000 years old and taking some wisdom out of it? You can use the wisdom. I always say, pray to the universe, or pray to your higher power, or pray to God, whoever it is. You better believe in something bigger than yourself if you’re going to make it through in this world. Man, that word wisdom is something, isn’t it?

Walking through the October first routine

Wisdom? Oh, my favorite. All right, so listen, it’s October 1st. We’re going to take a quick break here, and then when we come back, let’s talk about the October 1st routine. Absolutely.

All right, we’re going to take a quick one. This is Gordon Oliver with The Cambridge Connection. We’ll be right back. Inflation is pushing family finances to the brink. Don’t let that happen to you.

Call 1-800-CAMBRIDGE. Find out how to pay your bills in full while saving money in the process. Take control of your debt before it starts controlling you. October 1st, The Cambridge Connection. I’m your host, Gordon Oliver, with my co-pilot, Tina Marie, and our special guest, Judy Bailoff.

We’re going to talk about the October 1st activity that you would do in this book, but before we do that, manifesting this, how can you explain to our listeners that might be skeptical, how does the manifestation actually work? How does it manifest you changing the way things go, the way you think, the way they’re going to actually work out for you? Excellent question. The first thing I tell you is that when I was interviewed by Jack Canfield, the author of Chicken Soup for the Soul, he said this at the end of the interview. He said, first of all, Judy read over 70 books, so if you want to get the information out of 70 books without buying them and reading them, start there, get this book and read it.

Number two, he said, I believe that if you read this book every day of the year for one year it would change your life. The reason I think he said that is because I can’t change your thoughts, your spouse can’t change your thoughts, your business partner can’t change your thoughts, you are in charge of your thoughts. That’s the truth. We discussed a little bit, I’ve done some work here in the life coaching space and self-talk and negativity, and again, this kind of gets back to the at minimum manifesting it is by feeding your brain these positive things each and every day, where without them, why don’t you ask yourself the question, what do you think when you get up in the morning? What do you think when you have money troubles?

What do you think when you have a relationship problem? What’s your thought process of trying to fix that? At minimum, what you just said, the amount of books that you’ve read and information that you’re providing in a routine, if you are someone listening and you know that you’re not doing very well with getting what you want out of life, at minimum, why not start here with a daily routine that teaches you how to think a little bit differently? Absolutely. Actually, when they did a survey in the early 1960s and asked people if they think, a thousand people said yes, they thought.

When they asked them what they thought, only 5% had an answer. We’re not thinking, that’s the problem. What’s going on in the background, in your programming from when you entered the earth to now, is a lot of information and a lot of things that actually relate to your behavior. If you’re going to make changes, you’ve got to do something. This book, so far from what I’ve done, is amazing.

It’s almost like a gym routine for your brain, right? Oh my gosh, I have a new tagline for my book. Thank you. Yeah, my pleasure. My pleasure.

All right, so let’s talk about October 1st. For anyone that has the book. Today’s October 1st. Let’s talk about how to use this tool and how to actually put into action the manifestation Okay, so at this point in the year and the way we laid out the book, I have a fabulous editor She’s my youngest daughter. She’s a mean editor, but they’re supposed to be mean that’s their job.

Anyway, kind of like producers of a radio show He couldn’t help but get that one in I know, I know My daughter said mom, I’m gonna help you out as an editor. I’m gonna put the books your easier Assignments in the beginning of the book and they get harder and harder as you get through the year So you’re growing your brain is growing your thought process is growing. Your knowledge is growing I’m telling you reading this book for a whole year and actually having Control of the 12 universal laws in your head, you know what they are, you know how to use them You know what they do. It will change your life just by itself Just just to be clear for our listeners. You can start whatever day you get the book.

It’s the it’s that date So if you bought it today October 1st is in there you start with October 1st. Oh, yes You start with October 1st and now I’m really excited I’m getting to the end of the book and I get to go back to the beginning on January I’ll learn it because you know, we learn by repetition. Yep And again, just just to piggyback on that point. This is a routine that should never end Every year every day you should be doing these exercises Yes. Yes, so October 1st So I would get up this morning and I would read October 1st with my husband principle of success and wealth is six cents Now I want to give you the help of saying this principle of success and wealth comes from Napoleon Hill arguably the best personal development author that we’ve had in history and He wrote a book think and grow rich had 13 principles in it for success Now what he said about the sixth sense is that you could get rich just doing the other 12 principles But if you want a life of abundance develop your sixth sense So then there’s a Bible verse Bible verse today is Proverbs 4 6 do not forsake wisdom and she will protect you Love her and she will watch over you.

Okay, even if I don’t believe in the Bible the Old Testament is problems are pretty cool That’s pretty good verse then there’s a quote by Mahatma Gandhi Faith is a kind of sixth sense which works in cases which are without the purview of wisdom and purview Means like the whole scope of wisdom like if you had all the wisdom that there was faith is the sixth sense That’s better than that Then there’s a little devotional that I wrote meditation. You could say where I talk about With the principle and Sometimes there’s a story in there from my life or from a friend’s life or from history And then the last thing on every page is an affirmation and so read the affirmation out loud I’m actually using this book to coach a man who went blind from Kovat at the age of 60 and we’re literally working through the book together It’s that powerful. So every day he says this affirmation with his partner today’s affirmation Whatever which whichever one it is, of course today’s affirmation I rejoice with the knowledge that God is giving me wisdom guiding me daily protecting me and watching over me. So every day has all those pieces in it so that you Take in to your thinking the knowledge of these principles of success and wealth the the scripture verse You can not pay attention to it if you don’t want to but there’s so much wealth in here Yeah, I mean the key words right wisdom I I like the fact that wisdom is a female I caught that quick. Yeah, I Was waiting actually I was waiting.

It’s not pumpkin wisdom either It’s just wisdom wisdom and faith are the two words that jump off the page and if this was going to be the affirmation That I did today Those are the things that I have to continue to reinforce wisdom and faith Absolutely, and I took it really seriously I’ve been working a sixth sense takes works to work to develop. I mean we get given five senses and our The other senses the sixth sense intuition and empathy and those senses of the soul you could call them How do you get to trust the sixth sense through practice through? Through meditation through and I can tell you this is a true confession and now you’ll like blab it on the six o’clock news and Everybody will know when I wrote the book. I wasn’t I did not have a regular meditation practice. I started two months ago it is By far the best way to get to intuition to the sixth sense Because you’re quieting your mind so you can hear the mind of infinite intelligence You know something and just looking at this Again for today if I was struggling mentally or I was just not happy with where I am in life in these three things We use the word again faith and lastly wisdom Rejoice how if you’re if you’re able to say when you first wake up in the morning that you’re going to rejoice Anything at that point you’re starting off in the right foot.

Where to find the book

You’re starting off with the right thought process Starting your day properly. So do you suggest doing these in the morning when you go to bed or both? Um Both of you want my son does them and at night After dinner, my mom doesn’t my mom’s blind. So I read him to her in the afternoon about four o’clock David and I do it in the morning. I think it’s a personal preference But I my morning routine.

I have to I have to start out on the right foot. Flipping negativity and personal reflection

Judy Bailoff, incredible. Wow, Gordon, I’m gonna admit, while she was talking, I went right to Amazon and I saw another book that she wrote called Flipping the Script on Negativity. And honestly, I tied it immediately into my everyday life as far as a credit counselor. People call in and they’re just so beside themselves. And usually, they don’t wanna make the call.

They make the call and they’re just, and everything is just not gonna work, not gonna work. And by the end of the call, it’s so nice to say, oh my God, look, I have an answer for you. Flip the script, turn that frown upside down. It’s just, it’s amazing. I actually just bought the book for my daughter.

I can’t flip her script. She’s a little too, yeah. No, that never works. But maybe Judy can help her. But I want, this is a perfect correlation because we’re talking about manifestation, right?

Right. So let’s just flip the script the other way. Let’s say I called in and said, I’m over my head in debt, Tina Marie. How can you help me? Well, I doubt I can help.

Right. Probably not, you’re probably way too far gone. But let’s just, let’s see what happens. Oh, you have credit card debt, ugh. Positive thinking.

No, you’re in trouble. You’re on your way down. What is that? PMA, positive mental attitude. But if you think about it, and I know you’ve gone through some difficult times.

We’ve been together as friends for a long time. You know you have self-talk and thoughts that aren’t very good? I do. All the time. To this day, even know that I’m in it.

And even, we talked about the Pacific Institute. And one of the proofs of all of this, this has to become a way of living. Whether you use this book, which we strongly suggest, I have it, now you’re gonna have it for your daughter. Yes. You have to get into routines about changing the way you think.

That’s the manifestation. You are training your brain to think differently, and that takes work. And you know what, I just kinda wanna quickly talk on that. As you’re aware, my significant other passed away unexpectedly five years ago of sudden cardiac arrest. And obviously, you know, devastation.

But I will say, I took some of that energy and I turned it into something better by actually conducting, well not conducting, but hiring somebody to give our company CPR training. We have AED training. Just so that, God forbid, anyone else is ever in that situation where they don’t know to perform CPR, it made me feel better that maybe we’re helping someone else. Even though I couldn’t do it that night, someone else may be able to, so I. And this is the perfect example, not to get too personal, but it crushed you.

Absolutely. And you’ve carried it for a long time. Absolutely. And this is just going to that higher level now. As time goes on, it’s okay.

You loved him. Oh, yes. And look, you’re doing good things out of it, and that will help you to feel like something good has come from it. Absolutely. And there’s probably much more as you do these things again and again, you’ll find other things that you can do.

He was a Dallas Cowboys fan, though. That’s right. I don’t miss that. That detail, we forgot about that. And I guess he’s having a party up in heaven right now.

Yeah, he was bowling strikes. Last Monday’s debacle. All right, so quotes we always end with. You are the master of your destiny. You can influence, direct, and control your own environment.
